Roulette Basics

The Game of Roulette is based on allotting a number between 0 and 37 with the help of a small ball (boule). There are 37 numbers in European roulette and 38 numbers in American roulette. The probability that the ball falls into a number slot is equal for all numbers. Mathematicians consider the roulette game as an experiment with 37 equal probability results.

Roulette is a game which is usually played by 8 players who play against a croupier (dealer). The croupier spins the wheel and manages the bets and payouts. Each player plays with a different colour set of chips. This way bets do not get mixed up. Each chip represents a different cash value.

Basically the Players place bets on numbers, colours or the decision whether the ball will land on an even or uneven number.

When everyone had a chance to place their bets, the croupier spins the wheel and launches the ball. Just moments before the ball is about to drop into one of the number slots the croupiers calls out “no more bets” (‘Rien ne va plus’). From this moment on no more bets can be placed or changed until the ball drops into a slot. The croupier then places a dolly on the winning number on the roulette table and clears out all loosing and pays out all winning bets.

If the ball comes to rest on a number or colour you bet on you will multiply your bet by the factor seen in the table below.

The bets placed on other options are lost – unless you placed a bet on Zero.
