Blackjack

Hit or stand?

The dealer deals two cards to you and one to the bank face up and a second card face-down. The hole card. Now you have to make a decision: do you take another card ("hit") or pass to the dealer ("stand" or "stay"). If you choose to hit, the dealer gives you another card and again asks if you want to hit or stand. You keep hitting until you are satisfied with your total points or you bust (your points are over 21). The dealer must keep taking cards until he has 17 points or more which increases his chance to bust. The dealer does have the advantage of acting after the players, so if a player busts the game is over – the bank has won!

In Blackjack, the cards are valued as follows:

  • Ace: You will decide whether your ace counts 1 or 11
  • Images : 10 Points (Jack, Queen, King)
  • Other cards : are valued as indicated (2 through 10)

You are holding a Hard Hand if you are not in possession of an ace. Or if the ace you are holding only counts 1 point by your own decision.

You are holding a Soft Hand if you are holding an ace that counts for 11 points without being over 21 points in total.

Examples

  • You have a Hard 17 when are holding i.e. a 10, a 5 and a 2.
  • You have a Soft 18 when you are holding an ace and a 7.
  • You have a Hard 13 when you are holding an ace, a 7 and a 5.
